Sheet Pile St. Joseph River, South Bend, IndianaComplementary to our bridge work, JCI also specializes in piling work. JCI installs both driven wooden, pipe, H-Beam and helical piling along with steel sheet piling associated with both permanent and temporary installations.

JCI can drive sheet piling with both a crane with a suspended vibratory hammer and a MOVAX which is an excavator mounted, side grip vibratory driving unit. The traditional method of driving sheet piling is with a crane and a suspended vibratory driving unit which works great for long sheeting lengths when you have adequate height and access for a crane. This typically requires a large amount of sheeting to be driven to be a cost effective solution due to the mobilization costs of a crane.

If the sheeting requirements only require up to 35 to 40 foot sheet lengths and the area can be accessed using an excavator, then our MOVAX driving units with 100 or 60 tons of centrifugal force is the most cost effective unit. This can be mobilized quickly and therefore can be cost effective for driving a minimal quantity of sheet piling. We have completed many projects where we have left our shop in the morning from La Porte, Indiana, drove to the site, drove the piling and returned back to the shop by the end of the day. Since the excavator is small in comparison to a crane with 120 foot of boom, the excavator equipped with the MOVAX side grip vibratory driver can be used where there are height restrictions such as under an existing bridge or inside a building or factory. JCI has installed sheet piling under an earth filled arch bridge in the St. Joseph River in South Bend, Indiana when there was only 12 feet from the top of the sheeting to the bottom of the concrete arch. JCI has also installed sheeting inside the Caterpillar plant in Lafayette, Indiana.
